On August 8, 2019, Kane Is Able hosted a meeting at our corporate offices in Scranton, PA. Tim Thomas, Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), the PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), and NEPA Alliance presented Lackawanna County with a $784,883 ARC Local Access Road grant.

The NEPA Alliance, in coordination with the DCED Center for Strategic Partnerships, assisted in preparation of the grant and recommended the project to ARC for approval. ARC funding was used to construct just over one mile of road (1.03 miles of the 2.3 mile long road) improving the overall access to the Stauffer Industrial Business Park.

2019 stauffer park-1 ARC's Access Road Program mission is to better link the region's businesses, communities, and residents to the existing transportation infrastructure. The program offers a flexible approach designed to meet local needs and provide a financing mechanism to support a variety of economic development opportunities throughout Appalachia. The federal grant, combined with $505,367 in match funding from the PA DCED Multimodal Transportation Fund, was used for phase 1 of the project -- to completely reconstruct the road base, drainage, and paving.

The companies in Stauffer Park, which includes Kane Is Able, support over 2,800 jobs. This reconstruction of the county road through the business park assists in the retention and expansion of business. Phase 2 of the work is scheduled for either later in 2019 or spring of 2020.

NEPA Alliance, founded in 1964, is a private, non-profit, regional community and economic development agency, which serves the seven counties of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
