As a new year begins, we wanted to reflect briefly on the year just passed. Here's a look back on some of the prominent accomplishments at Kane Is Able in 2018.
Drove industry-leading performance in safety
The first tenet of our KANE Code – Keep safety first – is the cornerstone of our customer-centric philosophy. We make no compromises on safety and are proud to report that KANE finished 2018 with an RIR (Recordable Incident Rate) of 1.3. The industry average, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, is 4.6. That’s a pretty amazing number considering KANE has distribution operations across the country and our fleet travels 22 million miles annually.
Expanded operations in 3 key markets
KANE expanded its shared distribution network in three key markets to support customer growth and new business expansion. In total, KANE added 630,000 sq. ft. of additional space in Allentown, PA, Atlanta, GA and California’s Inland Empire.
Had driver turnover that was 45% lower than other large fleets
The latest update from
shows large fleets (annual revenue of $30M or more) have a driver turnover rate of 87% yearly. For small fleets, that number is 72%. KANE's driver turnover rate is currently tracking at 48%, providing more consistent, high-quality service to our clients and their retail customers.
Invested to train the next generation of logistics professionals
Kane Is Able is proud to work directly with many colleges and universities to promote the ever-expanding field of logistics.
- We participate in student research projects , assisting tomorrow’s crop of logisticians.
- We partner with world-class educational institutions on collaborative research to make our operations more efficient and effective.
- In April, KANE was among the companies that sponsored Penn State University’s annual Supply Chain Entrepreneur Pitch Contest . KANE’s CFO, Troy Mascarenhas served as one of the judges.
- We worked closely with local school districts in Northeast Pennsylvania on the Educators in the Workplace program, which helps educators and school administrators understand the fabulous career opportunities available in logistics.

- In May 2018, KANE was once again named to the Transport Topics Top Warehousing Firms list. KANE came in at #24. Additionally, KANE placed #47 in the Top Dedicated Contract Carriers category, providing dry and specialized dedicated transportation services to manufacturers and partners.

Kicked off new blog series honoring the work of KANE drivers
In 2018, Kane Is Able started a regular blog series called “ Dispatches from the Road .” In this associate-focused series, KANE periodically publishes interviews with our drivers – the men and women who live and breathe the transportation topics often written about on the blog.
Featured in local media
Towards the end of the year, KANE’s truck drivers were the subject of several media stories. Long-tenured driver, Dave Sheldon, was interviewed for the local-Scranton ABC news affiliate in a story they produced on the increase of truck traffic on the highways.
Additionally, KANE driver, Marcus Putnam, was featured in a video segment on the local-Scranton Fox affiliate – Tech Talk with Johnson College. Marcus, a graduate of Johnson College and an Air Force veteran, spoke about the flexibility and family-friendly environment of KANE’s transportation team.
2018 was indeed a busy year. We look forward to keeping the positive momentum rolling into 2019.
