Consumer Goods Logistics , Freight Transportation

While working on research for an upcoming white paper that we'll be publishing in the next few weeks, I was turned on to this 30 second spot from CSX.  I thought it was well done – crisp, clever, and direct.

1 ton of freight moved 500 miles using 1 gallon of fuel.

Some CPG manufacturers are already utilizing the benefits of the railroads.  As service levels continue to increase, coupled with instant visibility to the product, and best of all supply chain cost savings in the transportation of goods, more CPG companies should jump on board.

According to the most recent report released by the AAR (Association of American Railroads), intermodal traffic is up 3.5% year to date compared to volume for the same time period in 2012.  Most CPG products that are transported via rail travel either intermodal or container.  With HOS (Hours-of-Service) regulations impacting the transportation sector along with the challenges of driver shortages, I'll be interested to see how the supply chain adapts.
